Data Engineer (Contract)

Bloomington, Minnesota

**This is a 6-month contract role with our client in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul (south metro) area. The position follows a hybrid schedule, with 1–2 in-office days per week (Tuesday/Thursday). Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.**

This role supports ongoing data engineering work for the data teams while partnering closely with an external engineering vendor. You’ll build and maintain pipelines, work across Azure data tools, and drive solutions that help the business move faster with high quality data.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain data pipelines using Azure, Azure Databricks, PySpark, and SQL

  • Develop data transformations, orchestration, and integration patterns

  • Work as the liaison between internal teams and the external project team

  • Support Azure Data Factory pipelines, including troubleshooting and monitoring

  • Work with Azure SQL Database or SQL Server

  • Contribute to architecture discussions, documentation, and process improvements

  • Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and business partners

  • Support project work while also handling ongoing internal data needs

  • Use additional Microsoft cloud tools as needed across the data environment

Qualifications

  • Experience in Azure data engineering

  • Strong SQL skills

  • Proficiency with Azure Databricks and PySpark

  • Experience with Azure Data Factory

  • Experience working with Azure SQL Database or SQL Server

  • Ability to work cross‑functionally with technical and non‑technical teams

  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skill

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with external vendors or partner engineering teams

  • Familiarity with Microsoft cloud tools across the data stack

  • Background in a consulting or fast‑moving project environment

  • Experience with data engineering best practices in cloud environments
